We found this pub by chance, just up from the cycle-track. It is 10 minutes walk out of the main Cowes 'drag', before the start of the cycle path to Newport, but is well worth the trip. There were three local real ales on tap, plus two different ciders, so we really were spoilt for choice. It is the sort of pub where a couple of old chaps were sat with their papers, reading quietly in the corner. Outside a few lads were having a fag in the sunshine, and the public bar had a couple of youngsters playing pool with their Dad. It is obviously a great locals boozer of the old school, with teams for pool, darts, and cards. There is a pile of old board games ready to use, and we went back that night for a go on Trivial Pursuit - a few locals joined in and we had a great time. They don't offer a permanent food menu, but when we asked if they did lunch, they asked what we were looking for. Between us, we decided ham, egg, chips and beans would be our perfect heaven - guess what - the landlady managed to rustle up the whole feast in the time it took us to down our first pint!It was just like the old days - proper food without all the pretentious fuss! One of us only managed a cheese and pickle sarnie, but he is a veggie heathen - his loss!!!We will certainly be going back next time we visit the Island!
