  • 1 A truly woeful experience

Booked a group of eight of us for a Friday night – arrived to find only two other tables occupied, and the initial welcome was warm enough. Unfortunately it was downhill from then on. My girlfriend and I order the Welsh rarebit for starter; when it arrived it was soggy and blatantly undercooked – a poor start if a restaurant can manage to even mess up what is basically cheese on toast! The mains were a mixed bag; I had the fish of the day which was nice enough. However, one of my companions ordered a main course goat’s cheese salad which when it arrived was a small bowl of lettuce with a couple of slices of French bread and a tiny piece of goat’s cheese. That was it – no tomatoes, cucumber, dressing, or indeed anything that would qualify it as a main course. Another companion order the risotto which upon tasting appeared to have been cooked with cinnamon, the effect of which was to render it similar to rice pudding. At this stage we decided to point out the shortcomings to the manager. Now I’m no customer services expert, nor do I subscribe to the idea that the customer is ALWAYS right, but what I do know if that if someone expresses dissatisfaction you should probably see what you can do to resolve their issue rather than instantly start arguing with them. Apparently the risotto was always cooked that way and no one else had complained while the salad couldn’t have expected to be of a reasonable size as it was only priced at eight pounds! The evening ended up with two of our party having no main course and the chef standing at the kitchen door shouting abuse at my friend’s fiancée who had gone to seek the manager for further clarification. My recommendation, avoid at all costs.

after booking a party of 25 for a special occasion i thought i had better test the water and had Sunday lunch....what a lovely meal, the beef was exquisite the roast parsnip was a welcome surprise these days and the roast potatoes to die for, the desserts were immaculately presented and tasted divine i can highly recommend the apple and caramel pie, what a find, lovely young staff very eager to please polite and friendly, chef fantastic and very accommodating , the venue itself is really nice, clean and well thought out and I have also been lucky enough to see all the gust rooms which were immaculate, what more can i say? wonder ful 10/10
