The Roundabout Hotel also has a lounge bar with an open fire which burns brightly during the winter months and the oak beams which create an old worlde atmosphere. They are open all day to guests requiring food and drink. The hotel is easily accessed from the M27 and is conveniently situated near Ferry Ports at both Portsmouth & Southampton. The sailing enthusiast would find the Hamble River (Howard's Way fame) more than adequate. For water skiers, windsurfers and sunbathers, Lee on Solent is only 20 minutes away by car. Furthermore, there are 3 excellent golf courses in the area of Fareham and a large modern leisure centre only 5 minutes away. I was shocked at how very scruffy and grubby my room was. I booked for 4 nights but left after 3. Wall paper coming off the walls, holes in the doors, cracked sink (I presume because the shelf above it was hanging off at an angle so things roll off into the sink.) The plastic glass in the bathroom was stained with a previous owner's toothepaste. The carpet was filthy and the velvet covered stool under the dressing table was sticky and had cigarette burns - you wouldn't have wanted to sit on it. The PAT testing of the electric kettle and hairdryer was a year and 3 months over due according to the labels and there were flea traps under both the beds, dated last October. The whole place needs redecorating and refurbishing. (It has that pre smoking ban yellow tinge to everything.) It is not the sort of grime that normal cleaning would remove. Also, the hotel does not have double glazing so the traffic noise from the roundabout and the fly-over (just outside) was really loud and disturbing. (No sleeping with the window open) The sheets and towels were clean and the staff were friendly, but I'm afraid that's nowhere near enough. When I book a hotel room, I want comfortable, clean surroundings where I can chill out or sleep. This hotel met none of those criteria. I have read the hotel's own website and it is misleading to say the least. I will be contacting the tourist board.... with my photo's.
